By now, many of us are aware of the accident that took place during the morning rush hour today when a double decker OCTranspo bus struck a Via Rail Passenger train. Our thoughts and prayers go to all the riders on the bus and their families, as well as the first responders. Initial media reports indicate that there have been at least five fatalities. At the time of writing, multiple ambulances were leaving the scene on route to the Queensway Carleton and Ottawa Civic Hospitals. Everyone is advised to steer clear of the area so first responders can do their jobs, and eventually focus on the investigation.
The WBCA will evaluate what we can do to support the accident victims and their families in the aftermath of this accident. When this type of tragedy occurs, we often ask – what can we do. If you would like to do something immediate, please consider donating blood. According to Canadian Blood Services, an Auto accident can require up to 50 units of blood to save a life.
